Gerard Trower : ウィキペディア英語版 | Gerard Trower Gerard Trower (3 December 1860 - 25 August 1928) was an Anglican bishop.〔''Crockford's Clerical Directory 1975-76'' London: Oxford University Press, 1976 ISBN 0-19-200008-X〕 Trower was born in Hook, Yorkshire and educated at Merchant Taylors' School, Northwood and Keble College, Oxford.〔''Who was Who 1987-1990'': London, A & C Black, 1991, ISBN 0-7136-3457-X〕 He was ordained in 1888 and his first position was as a curate in Birmingham.〔''The Times'', 1 October 1888, p7, "Ordinations: Diocese of Worcester"〕 He then emigrated to Australia where he became Rector of Christ Church St. Laurence〔(Christ Church St Laurence website )〕 in Sydney. When he left, in 1901, for the Nyasaland bishopric, his parishioners gave him a gold cross,〔(AOB online: Trower, G. )〕 and he received the honorary degree Doctor of Divinity (DD) from the University of Oxford. He was consecrated as Bishop of Likoma by the Archbishop of Canterbury in Westminster Cathedral 25 January 1902, and arrived in his new diocese of Nyasaland later that year. Two years later, in January 1903, he laid the foundation stone for the new Cathedral of Likoma, to be dedicated to Saint Peter. Trower was translated to the new Diocese of North West Australia in 1910. After 17 years in this position he retired to Chale, Isle of Wight, where he died in 1928.〔''Isle of Wight County Press'', 31 August 1928.〕
