When he left, in 1901, for the Nyasaland bishopric, his parishioners gave him a gold cross,〔(AOB online: Trower, G. )〕 and he received the honorary degree Doctor of Divinity (DD) from the University of Oxford. He was consecrated as Bishop of Likoma by the Archbishop of Canterbury in Westminster Cathedral 25 January 1902, and arrived in his new diocese of Nyasaland later that year. Two years later, in January 1903, he laid the foundation stone for the new Cathedral of Likoma, to be dedicated to Saint Peter. Trower was translated to the new Diocese of North West Australia in 1910.
